• Profile of Instructors •

Michael Ong

Michael Ong is a recognized veteran in the cargo movement industry of Singapore. In total he accumulated more than 25 years of management related experience. He was the Divisional Head of Hitachi's Logistics & Distribution Department. Among his achievements was the key role he played in the company's successful implementation and maintenance of the ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 quality systems. He was also instrumental in setting up the company Enterprise Resource Planning System and was also on the Safety Board Management Committee. Another of his accomplishments was the setting up of logistics warehouses in an overseas country.

Michael obtained his Bachelor of Business in Transport & Logistics Management from RMIT University in 1995. He was awarded Group Prize for the highest marks in Business Logistics Management. In 2001, he successfully acquired the UNCTAD International Trade Centre's Certificate in Training techniques applied to ITC's Modular Learning System in International Purchasing & Supply Management.

Michael has been actively involved in developing professionals in the logistics industry for more than 20 years. Since 1982, he has trained industry executives in areas such as International Trade, Logistics and Supply Chain Management. In 1996, he was the pioneer ITE approved trainer in Logistics Operations. He is also a part-time lecturer/tutor in Strategic Planning and Supply Chain at Singapore Polytechnic. He has also completed several China logistics projects, involving logisticians from China. Finally, he is also actively involved with in-house-training, with the following companies: Hitachi Asia, Micron Semiconductor Asia, Motorola Electronics, NCS Singapore, Federal Express, Nissan Taiwan and P&G Indonesia.

Alfred Cheah

Alfred Cheah is the Partner and Principal facilitator of Intrac Asia Pte Ltd, a training and consulting firm focus on providing management consulting services and innovative business learning solutions for organisation. He has been trained in the USA and is a certified facilitator of this Strategic Business Simulation program.

He brings with him 16 years of management experiences in several of the US Fortune 500 companies. He has extensive regional experience in business operational, supply chain deployment and technology integration programs in the high-tech electronics, distribution and publishing industries across Asia.

Mr. Cheah holds a Master degree in Management from the Macquarie Graduate School of Management, Macquarie University Australia.

Jerry Banks

Jerry Banks retired in June, 1999 as Professor, School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology. He then worked for two years as Senior Simulation Technology Advisor, Brooks Automation, Planning and Logistics Solutions, AutoMod Product Team. He is currently an independent consultant.

Dr. Banks is the author, co author, editor or co-editor of eleven books, one set of proceedings, several chapters in texts, and numerous technical papers. He is the editor of the Handbook of Simulation, published in 1998 by John Wiley. This book won the award for Excellence in Engineering Handbooks from the Professional Scholarly Publishing Division of the Association of American Publishers, Inc.

He was a founding partner in the simulation-consulting firm Carson/Banks & Associates, Inc. located in Atlanta. The firm was purchased by AutoSimulations, Inc. (now part of Brooks Automation) in May of 1994. He is a full member of many technical societies including the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) for which he served eight years as that organization's representative to the Board of the Winter Simulation Conference, including two years as Board Chair. He is the recipient of the INFORMS College on Simulation Distinguished Service Award for 1999. He was named a Fellow of IIE in 2002.
