Module EC0603: Logistics Management & International Business

This module aims to give participants a detailed insight into the various components of supply chain management and how these components can be integrated to provide value for customers.  Several case studies are also incorporated in the module.

  Topics Outline 

  • Overview -Global Supply Chain Management & International Business

This topic describes the objectives, processes and functions of supply chain management in global context.  It includes a discussion of the three key supply chain cycles - product, information and cash flow. Critical issues in global supply chain management are addressed. Review of ongoing research, new concepts and future supply chain challenges. 

  • Inventory Management

The objective of this topic is to provide inventory rationale, inventory costs and evaluating effectiveness of inventory management. 

  • Distribution Management

Includes a review of the role of the warehouse in the supply chain and the key objectives including attaining the logistics goals of shorter cycle times, lower inventories, lower costs, and improved customer service levels. The objective of the warehousing function is reviewed and warehouse operations, warehousing decisions, layout and design, materials handling and packaging are covered. The value-adding role of warehousing and forms of value added work are reviewed.  

  • Transportation Management

Includes a review of the role of transportation in the supply chain. This topic is concerned with the transportation system in the logistics system/supply chain, covering transport selection, carrier modes and classification, and transportation management. 

  • Marketing & International Business

The objective is to provide background on the differences between global and domestic supply chain with discussion on the ever-changing legal and business environment in the major global markets. This topic provides basics of global supply chain, warehousing and packaging requirements for global shipments as well as the role of customs duties and free trade zones.  Also includes a review of international transportation, intermodal transportation and international freight documentation. 

  • Third Party Relationships

This topic will discuss the types of logistics relationships and a process model that facilitates the development and implementation of successful supply chain relationships. Definitions and profile of third party logistics, types of third party services and collaborative relationships, using outsourced logistics services as a key strategy to improve supply chains and creation of customer satisfaction are covered.

Participants will receive a Certificate in Logistics Management & International Business issued by TLI – Asia Pacific

Module Duration:  3 days

      16 - 18 April 2008 / 19 - 21 August 2008

  Module Fee:

      Per module: SGD 2,000 per person
      ECSCM programme: SGD 1,750 per person
