Module EC0602: Integrated Supply Chain Management

This course looks into the interrelationships between supply chain planning processes and related business functions. Participants will be introduced to basic concepts and terminology used in the various planning areas - demand plan, material planning, distribution planning etc. Leading supply chain planning practices highlighting how businesses have responded to new challenges using supply chain planning concepts will be covered. The impact of problems/glitches in the supply chain and its impact on corporate shareholder value and role of performance measurements across the supply chain will also be included.

 Topics Outline

  •  RFID in Supply Chain Management

    The basics and implementation of RFID technology in the supply chain will be covered. Topics includes RFID explained – tags, antennae, readers (read/write), middleware, application software; RFID demonstration; RFID frequencies – LF, HF, UHF, MW; EPC explained; Sensors, wireless networks and cold chain applications; RFID case study; and RFID ROI.
     

  • Supply Chain Optimisation

    Supply chain optimization (SCO) is the application of processes and tools to ensure the optimal operation of a supply chain. This module will briefly introduce some optimization techniques used in supply chain management (SCM), such as linear programming, network programming and dynamic programming. Typical problems encountered in SCM will be exemplified and SCO approaches to them will be illustrated.
     

  • Supply Chain Risk Management

    Supply chain risk management (SCRM) is the management of supply chain risks through coordination or collaboration among the supply chain partners so as to ensure profitability and continuity. The topics to be covered include definitions of risks, sources and impacts of supply chain risks, risk assessment, how to incorporate risk management into supply chains, and risk management framework. Some examples/case studies using SCRM in industry will be illustrated.
