Associate Professor Hum Sin Hoon, National University of Singapore

Dr. Hum Sin Hoon obtained his B. Commerce and B. Eng (Hons) as a Colombo Plan Scholar from the University of Newcastle, Australia. He received his PhD in Production/Operations Management from the University of California, Los Angeles, USA. Dr. Hum is currently with the Department of Decision Sciences at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He currently serves as the Executive Dean of the NUS-Fudan University Joint Graduate School that is being setup in Suzhou, China. Dr. Hum has earlier completed his term as the Dean of The NUS Business School. He has also earlier served as the Sub-Dean and Vice-Dean of the NUS Business School, and also as the Head of Decision Sciences Department there. Professor Hum has also been a member of the NUS Council and the NUS Senate. Currently, Dr. Hum also serves as a member of the ECR Singapore Board, the Singapore Standards Council, the Advisory Panel of the Singapore Logistics Association and also as chairman of the Management Board for the Paya Lebar Methodist Girls Schools. Prior to joining the University, Dr. Hum worked as a Systems Engineer in the Ministry of Defence and participated in several studies aimed at optimizing the use of various types of training resources and systems. He has also conducted executive teaching and/or served as a consultant to both public and private organizations including the Singapore National Computer Board, the Jurong Town Corporation, the Port of Singapore Authority, the Singapore Trade Development Board, Apple Computer Singapore, SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals, Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza Shanghai, Sri Bayu Resort Malaysia, Amari Hotels and Resorts Thailand, Sun International Group, Mauritius, CWT Distribution Ltd, UPS Worldwide Logistics Asia Pte Ltd, Royal Brunei Airlines and Singapore Airlines. Dr. Hum's current area of active consulting work has been in helping companies and government agencies adopt and implement the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) strategic measurement and management system. Indeed, in this area of work, Prof Hum has helped different organisations in building and implementing some fifty balanced scorecards at different organisational levels. Dr. Hum's current research interests are in the areas of operations strategy, Japanese manufacturing system, modelling analysis of logistics systems, production planning and control of bottleneck facilities and the strategic management of hotel and airline operations. His research papers have been published in various journals including Operations Research, European Journal of Operational Research, Naval Research Logistics, International Journal of Operations and Production Management, Singapore Management Review and the Asia-Pacific Journal of Management.
